Help from the public is still needed to identify empty houses.

BY WAYNE GRANT | STAFF WRITER

A civic group currently compiling a list of vacant homes in the city says they still need help from the public.

Rita Press, president of Citizens for Ormond Beach, said if a person knows of a vacant house, they can add it to the group's running list by visiting cfobonline.com. From there, click on "ASK CFOB/Contact us," type the address of the abandoned home and any comments into the box, and then click Submit.

The process is completely anonymous, Press said.

In the study, the group is researching reasons for the vacancies and plans to present its findings to government officials in the hope of finding a solution to the problem. Press said she “felt discomfort” when she discovered while researching the homes that hedge funds are buying them with the intention of renting them out and bundling them for investments.
