Father Lopez discus slinger A.J. McFarland set the meet record on Friday in the 10th-annual East Coast Classic track-and-field meet, held at Flagler Palm Coast High School.
McFarland’s hurl of 165 feet, 3 inches, was enough to take first place by almost 8 inches. The previous record was 119 feet, 9 inches, set by Dustin Bowens.
It was also a personal best for McFarland, eclipsing his previous record of 155 feet, 5 inches. He finished 10th in the shot put, with 40 feet, 5.5 inches.
Earlier this month, McFarland signed his letter of intent to the University of Florida.
