Russian ballet: 'Sleeping Beauty,' at Flagler Auditorium

The Rudolf Nureyev State Ballet Theatre will enchant the audience at the Flagler Auditorium with a production of “Sleeping Beauty” 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.

The company has toured with productions of traditional Russian Classics, and among the company’s dancers are many distinguished Russian artists and winners of international ballet competitions.

Tickets are $39 for adults and $28 for youth. Call 437-7547.
 

AKA donates gifts to foster children
The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Chi Delta Omega Chapter, donated 25 gift bags containing clothing and toys to the foster children served through the Flagler County branch of the Community Partnership for Children Inc.

The children and adolescents who received the gifts are in foster care due to incarcerated parents or special supervision requirements.
 

Marine Corps League 876 donates to veteran nursing home
Last month, the Flagler County Marine Corps League 876 Commandant Jack Marshall presented E. Gray Kilpatrick, administrator at Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home of Florida, in Daytona Beach, with coupon books for McDonald's in the amount of $440.

The league visits the nursing home the first Saturday of the month and holds a social, in which food and beverages are served to the residents.

The Flagler County Marine Corps League 876 meets 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696, 47 Old Kings Road N.
 

'Florida — As I See It' at Ocean Books and Art
The art scene in Flagler Beach gets off to a colorful start in 2014 at Ocean Books & Art’s Jan. 3 art opening reception 5:30-8:30 p.m. for Bob Carlsen.

“Florida — As I See It” is a collection of the artist’s newest images captured in photographic safaris throughout Florida. The reception at 200 S. Oceanshore Blvd., Flagler Beach, is free; and refreshments will be served.

The show will run for the entire month.
