A homeless man discovered human skeletal remains early Saturday morning on West Granada Boulevard.
It was determined after an initial assessment that the remains are old, naturally bleached and covered in mold. There were scraps of clothing found around them, as well.
"This is not one of those fast things, skeletal remains found in the woods," Brandon Haught, assistant public information officer said. "It is going to be a very long time before new developments arrive."
Deputies were notified at about 1 a.m., by transient Adam Fulkerson, 52. He led deputies into the woods near the 1700-block of West Granada Boulevard. The bones were found about 50 feet back from the road, near a homeless camp.
The remains will be examined by the Volusia County Medical Examiner. The Sheriff's Office's Major Case Unit is investigating.
