Residents of The Trails could see some serious changes to their community in 2014.

After homeowners pushed for outside management, The Trails quickly hired Aegis Community Management to help run the 990-home community. Aegis President David Burman said that, although they have yet to determine the community's specific goals and needs, there are plans on make serious changes.

"The Trails is pretty fundamentally changing the way they preform the job that they're there for," Burman said. "There will be some legacy left over from 25 years of doing it the other way, and I'm sure there will be some challenges associated with that."

The contract with Aegis was short notice, according to Burman. The company started talking with The Trails in early December, and its contract officially began Jan. 1.

Burman said the board of the homeowners association will still be the governing authority, and Aegis will advise council and carry on board policies. He says his goal is to have a productive and mutually beneficial relationship.

"We can bring consistency to the job," Burman said. "The managers and the accounting staff are usually here for the long term, and they don't come and go with various board members. Our first month in a community like the trails is really always spent just trying to get acclimated to things."
