Their season might have ended almost two months ago, but four Matanzas High School seniors will be back on the football field this weekend when they compete in the War of the Border All-Star game in Valdosta, Ga.

Marcaus Cooper, Al’Kwazi Spencer, Travis Thompson and Loubens Polinice were selected to play in the game, which will take place Jan. 10, at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Cooper was selected as a wide receiver, Spencer was selected as an athlete/running back, Thompson was selected as a fullback and Polinice was selected as an offensive lineman.

Players are selected by the head coach based on their season highlight tapes. In total, about 300 seniors were nominated for roster spots.

The War of the Border is an annual all-star game between Georgia and Florida seniors.

Polinice won’t be able to attend the game, though, because he will be taking an official visit to Presbyterian College, in Clinton, S.C.

Matanzas coach Jeff Nettles will coach the offensive line for the Florida team.

“I thought I had my last chance to coach these kids in Week 10 in our win over Atlantic,” Nettles said. “But it turns out that I’m lucky enough to coach them one more week and in a prestigious all-star game.”

Nettles also confirmed that Polinice has two full scholarship offers: Weber State Univesity (Division I FCS, Big Sky Conference) and Florida A&M University (NCAA Division 1, MEAC).
