The Flagler Palm Coast girls soccer team celebrated three seniors on Friday night but not much else as they played to a scoreless draw against Seabreeze in the regular season finale.
Despite not finding the back of the net, the Lady Bulldogs consistently put pressure on the Lady Sandcrabs’ defense, creating chance after chance.
“We had some opportunities that their goalie did a good job on, and we also had some opportunities that we didn’t do a good job on,” FPC coach Pete Hald said after the game. “We had been scoring some goals lately, and it’s frustrating to come into today and not get anything.”
FPC (15-3-5) had scored 12 goals in their last two games, including eight in a mercy-rule win over Mainland on Tuesday.
FPC and Seabreeze (12-2-6) met earlier in the season, which also ended in a scoreless tie.
The scoring chances were coming all throughout the game for FPC. The Lady Bulldogs had several corner kicks, but they couldn’t capitalize. Much of that was thanks to Seabreeze keeper Hailey Beach, who made big save after big save
FPC had a few last-minute scoring chances but couldn’t net the winner.
Before the game, FPC honored its three seniors: Sarah DiLoreto, Emily Turner and Ashley Friedman.
“All three of them are captains, and you always need leaders, and every team has its leaders, and they have definitely filled those roles,” Hald said. “They work hard and always do what I ask of them.”
The district playoffs begin next week for both teams.
FPC (the No. 1 seed) will host DeLand in the District 2-5A semifinals. With a win, the Lady Bulldogs would advance to the finals, which would be played at FPC on Friday. University and Spruce Creek will play in the other semifinal game.
FPC beat DeLand 4-0 earlier this season.
