Sgt. James Davis was fired from the Ormond Beach Police Department yesterday by Chief of Police Henry Osterkamp, after an internal affairs investigation turned up evidence of domestic violence and an inappropriate relationship with a person not his wife while on duty, among other charges.
In his decision to terminate Davis’ employment, Osterkamp wrote that Davis set a poor example for subordinates, exercised poor judgment throughout the incidents and was untruthful in a meeting last May and in a sworn interview after the investigation.
At a predetermination meeting with the chief, Davis apologized for having allowed his personal conduct to involve the department and admitted that he should have handled his marital affairs in a more appropriate manner. A fellow officer supported Davis at the hearing with a list of officers that commented on his level of work performance and mentoring of subordinates.
