Mainland star Trey Rodriguez announced on his Twitter Thursday morning that he has committed to play football at Florida Atlantic University.
“I just committed to FAU with me new running back coach for the next four years,” Rodriquez tweeted. “This decision was based on my education and the opportunity they’re giving me plus my daughter and my family and friends #satisfied.”
Rodriguez was named the News-Journal’s Offensive Player of the Year. He began the season as running back but then took over as the Bucs’ quarterback, leading his team to a district championship, region championship and the Class 6A state semifinals
After missing the first two games because of eligibility issues following his transfer form Seabreeze, Rodriguez accounted for more than 2,200 yards and tallied 25 touchdowns this season.
