Ramirez moves into marketing
After 32 years in banking, Rafael Ramirez, of Ormond Beach, has left his position as president of the Volusia County region for BankFirst to serve as marketing development specialist for Halifax Health.
“He has a tremendous business background, and he knows the community,” said John Guthrie, communications director at Halifax Health. “He will be someone the community can go to and express their needs.”
Ramirez will help expand the hospital's services into Ormond Beach and West Volusia.
Born in Puerto Rico, Ramirez has served on many boards, including the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce, Ormond Beach YMCA, The Daytona Regional Chamber and the Daytona State College Foundation, where he was recently named chairman.

Seniors' Christmas brightened by donations
More than 815 gifts brightened Christmas for seniors at nursing homes throughout Volusia County last year, through the “Be a Santa for a Senior” program, run by Home Instead Senior Care.
“We call them the forgotten generation,” said Mariann Darcangelo, of Home Instead. “Many of (these seniors) have outlived their families and their friends and barely make ends meet. We want to bring a little joy and happiness on Christmas Day.”
Gift tags contained specific items requested by the nursing home residents and included such things as socks, T-shirts, sweaters and blankets. Call 255-0645.
