SIDELINES: Matanzas muscles past St. Augustine

The Matanzas girls weightlifting team defeated St. Augustine, 50-37, on Jan. 15.

Kayla Short and Kayla Walker will both compete at the sectional meet, which will be Thursday at Spruce Creek High School. Placers from sectionals advance to the state meet.

Matanzas’ weight class winners vs. St. Augustine are as follows: 101 pounds: D. Marler, 85-90—175; 154: K. Walker, 110-130—240; 183: K. Mandt, 110-105—215; 199: Dillion, 135-130—265; Unlimited: M. Short, 190-140—330.

The Lady Iron Pirates had several other lifters finish second. Matanzas finished the season 11-1.

Palm Coast Gymnastics shines in Tampa
Palm Coast Gymnastics' option team had its first competition Jan. 11-12, at the Tampa Bay Classic, held at the University of Tampa.

Competing at the event were Palm Coast Gymnastics’ Level 6, 7, 8 and 9s.

Allesandra Rivera is now ranked seventh in the nation in floor exercise following the Tampa Bay Classic.
