It's nearly a month into the new year, a time when a lot of people's resolutions to get more fit start becoming a bit less strict. But living healthy doesn't have to be so hard!
Here are nine easy tips from James Magliulo, owner of Palm Coast's Anytime Fitness, at 260 Cypress Edge Drive, on how to get healthy and stay that way in 2014.
1. Never skip breakfast. Eat a healthy, low-fat breakfast to fire up your metabolism for the day.
2. Always check your weight in the morning before breakfast, at approximately the same time everyday to get the most accurate reading.
3 .Sweet tooth? Replace simple sugars (candy, donuts, etc) with good-quality fresh fruits.
4. Are you the kind of person who "needs" their weekly wine fix? Well, wine contains loads of empty calories that add up fast by the end of the week, putting the pounds on. Keep alcohol consumption down to keep fat down!
5. Get a workout partner. You will be more successful and held more accountable if you and a friend partner up for regular gym visits.
6. Give yourself one cheat day a week (maybe Sunday). You will be more successful long term if you don't completely deny yourself. Instead, earn and reward yourself with a cheat day per week to stay on track!
7. Workout at least 4 days per week and do both cardiovascular for heart and calorie-burning, as well as resistance training to tone muscles and strengthen bones.
8. Portion control. Push yourself away from the table and your stomach will shrink down. Trust me: You won't need that second or third helping.
9. Find a local gym that offers free fitness classes to motivate and inspire you to exercise!
