Sixty-day theft grace period

2:26 p.m. — 700 Block of Fleming Avenue. Information. The victim said the suspect offered to clean his compacted gutter for $35, so he agreed. After cleaning the gutter, the suspect offered to fix the roof for another $700. The victim agreed again, and the suspect left to get materials. The suspect did not return to the house, however, and did not call to explain the delay.

The victim said he only wants his money back and any supplies the suspect has purchased. The suspect still has not begun to work, but the officer determined he has not violated the law because he has not exceeded 60 days to complete the work or return the money.

Pet-sitter/ring-stealer

1:22 p.m. — First Block of Mayfield Circle. Theft. The victim used a website to find a pet-sitter, who stayed at her house twice, once in October and once in November.

At Christmas, the victim realized that her passport was missing, as was her engagement ring. It was yellow gold with a small diamond.

The victim said that, in November, the suspect, her husband and her son stayed at the house. The officer checked pawn shop records and found that the suspect started pawning items in October. There were several rings, but they were white gold.

Later, the victim notified the officer that two of her husband’s rings were missing. The officer checked the pawn shops and found that the suspect pawned rings matching their description in November.
