This year, when I set out to document the Flagler County and Ormond Beach communities for this section, I wanted to focus on what the title of this section has been for the last three years: “Celebrate America.” My goal was to show how people in our local communities celebrate what makes our country and counties unique.

The opening scene takes you to Ormond by the Sea, where many residents and visitors take advantage of the cool ocean breeze and early sunrises for shore fishing. Throughout the section you will be taken to a youth baseball tournament, the wedding of a US Army Captain and a USA World Cup game watch party in Palm Coast. In the midst of the World Cup, I thought it only proper to document how so many people are rallying behind our team and wearing their red, white and blue with pride.

The story picks back up in Bunnell, at Cowart Ranch and Farms, where families can go spend time together and celebrate the fruitful farmland by picking blueberries. The theme of agriculture continues with scenes from the Ormond Beach Farmer’s market. Finally, the essay closes back at the beach with the celebration of children and water.

As you view these images, I invite you to be reminded of all there is to celebrate in life. Even in hard times, and maybe especially in hard times, I think it is important to remember the joys. Take time to celebrate!
