Barking dogs and an alert B-section resident helped foil a thief police believe committed at least seven burglaries early Friday morning.
Deputies arrested 18-year-old Michael Shawn McRoberts July 11 after a local resident, tipped off to the thief’s presence by his barking dogs, noticed a black-clad McRoberts peering into the windows of neighborhood homes.
“As the investigation continued, deputies learned that McRoberts attempted to enter an occupied home through a sliding glass door while the residents were sleeping,” according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. “A homeowner, who was alerted by his barking dogs, spotted McRoberts fleeing the area and followed him until law enforcement officers arrived on scene,” according to the release.
Deputies found McRoberts at his Bunker View Place home and recovered $2,500 worth of stolen property. They believe he burgled homes and cars on Bunker Lane, Bunker View Place, Bunker Hill Drive and Bunker Knolls Lane.
He was arrested and charged with attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling, and also with possession of under 20 grams of cannabis.
When deputies took him to the Flagler County jail, they found Alprazolam on his person, and added one charge of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and another charge of introducing contraband into a correctional facility.
