Students explore STEM camp
This summer, Flagler County Schools launched its first STEM Camp at Wadsworth Elementary School.
STEM camp is a two-week program that introduces high-achieving elementary students to innovative and rewarding academic experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The purpose of this camp is to provide our students with enrichment opportunities through hands-on activities and inquiry based instruction to explore, create, analyze, discover, and evaluate concepts while motivating and learning from one another.

Local high school students look to make it count in Atlanta
Four Palm Coast students, Nicole Corder, Josh Hobbs, Nick Jahn and Michael Manning accompanied by their advisor Barbra Tant, competed in DECA’s annual International Career Development Conference last month in Atlanta.

The students competed in teams of two, with Corder and Hobbs working together in the Student Based Enterprise Competition and Jahn and Manning teaming up in the Sports and Entertainment Competition. The events took place in the Georgia Dome and the Georgia World Congress Center. Each of the four students were given the opportunity to meet new people with each state along with several other countries including Canada, Guam, British Columbia and Manitoba sending competitors for a total of 17,000 students present.

“Being able to compete at ICDC was an incredible experience. I was able to compete against the best of the best from around the world and learn more about different businesses,” Manning said. “By finishing fourth in the state of Florida, Nick and I had high hopes in Atlanta but ultimately fell short of our goal to place in the Sports and Entertainment competition this year.”

Around town…
The Marine Corps League, Flagler County Detachment 876 delivered over 125 school backpacks to the five elementary schools in Flagler County.
