Since being founded in 2006, the University Women of Flagler has awarded $48,000 in scholarships to graduates of Flagler County high schools, plus an annual award to the Take Stock in Children program.
This year, the following five young ladies received scholarships of $1,500 each for use at any four-year institution of higher learning of their choice: Abigail Bayer, Widline Guillaume, and Brook Manze, from Matanzas Higher School; and Carrie Harnett and Eva Perez, from Flagler Palm Coast High School. Additionally, one previous scholarship recipient, Emily Kruithof, received an award of $500 to continue her studies at the University of Florida.
The organization also gave $1,000 to The Take Stock in Children Program again this year, making the total 2013-14 contributions $9,000 from the group. UWF funds these scholarships through donations, fundraising events and sponsorships. All proceeds earned by UWF fundraising efforts go to the Scholarship Fund.
This year’s scholarship committee was chaired by Sybil Daniel and Ouida Green.
Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority awards $8,000 in scholarships
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Chi Delta Omega Chapter continues to celebrate education by awarding eight college scholarships.
The sorority hosted a reception luncheon with friends and family of the scholarship recipients to celebrate their achievements. Each student exemplified high scholastic standards with GPA’s ranging 3.5 to 4.6 and dynamic community service.
The scholarship winners are as follows: Flagler Palm Coast High School: Yashauna Bosley, Yumalik Carey, Pedro Vega and Maria Zabala; and Matanzas High School: Rosie Basquin, Michelle Dominguez, Widline Guillaume, and Travis Thompson.
Since 2002, Chi Delta Omega Chapter has granted over $55,000 in scholarship funds to deserving students in Flagler and surrounding counties.
Irish Social Club of Palm Coast awards annual scholarships
The Irish Social Club of Palm Coast awarded its annual scholarships to two Flagler County students at its Hawaiian night, held at the Italian American Club May 14.
It is estimated that approximately $14,000 in scholarships has been awarded to deserving students in Flagler County since the inception of the program in 2001.
This year, the club was able to present two scholarships; one in the name of the Irish Social Club of Palm Coast awarded to Sarah Feeney and the other in the name of the late Bob Trowbridge, a dedicated member of the Irish Social Club, who died earlier this year, awarded to Ashleigh Fallon.
Flagler Pennsylvania welcomes new board
The Flagler County Pennsylvania Club welcomed its new board of directors last month.
They are as follows: President Harry Whitehead, Vice President Dick Rheem, Secretary Debbie Moore, Treasurer Faye Kandor and board members Alice Whitehead, Gail Kach, Ed Pobiak, Sam Pobiak, Dot McKenna and Larry Moore.
