Deputy Paula Priester and Commander Jeff Hoffman, of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, greeted guests Friday, June 6, at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Palm Coast Parkway. It was National Donut Day, and the two were handing out coupons and thanking people for wearing their seatbelts.

“We think it’s a good way to interact with the citizens of Palm Coast and show them that we have a sense of humor about the whole donut stigma,” Priester said.

Guests at the Palm Coast Dunkin Donuts also enjoyed a free donut with a purchase of any beverage.

National Donut Day, celebrated on the first Friday of June each year, was originally established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. According to John Costello, President, Global Marketing and Innovation at Dunkin’ Brands, the holiday provides a perfect opportunity to celebrate the delight donuts bring to people all around the world.

“As the country’s donut leader, each and every day we see the unique way donuts can create smiles and make any moment a little happier and a little sweeter. We are proud to help people celebrate and enjoy National Donut Day with a free donut at Dunkin’ Donuts with the purchase of any beverage,” he said.
