Colorful costumes, decorated bikes get attention.
Dressed in a pink skirt and hat, Torah Lohman was prepared for a beach ride, but not just any ride. It was part of the inaugural Beach Bike Boob Cruise and Scavenger Hunt on June 7. The event was organized by Realtors Sold for a Cause, a group that raises money each year for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer annual fundraiser. Last year, through all of their events, they raised $30,000.
“You get to dress up and it’s for a great cause,” Lohman said. “My grandmother had breast cancer.”
The riders left from the Beach Bucket on South Atlantic Avenue and made several stops at participating businesses along the beach, taking photos to complete a scavenger hunt. The participants paid a fee, and money was also raised at raffles during the event. A total of about $4,200 was raised.
Lisa Blythe, one of the organizers, said she got the idea when riding on the beach for a birthday celebration, stopping for refreshments along the way.
“I thought, why not make this a community event?” she said.
