The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is seeking volunteers for the Citizens Observer Patrol — which now has 52 members — and donated boats for marine patrol.

“We would like to get our volunteers involved with our Marine Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit,” Manfre said in a news release. “Our volunteers are a valuable asset to our community and we would like to get them even more involved in our daily operations.”

C.O.P. members report suspicious activity and aid deputies in traffic control, accidents, parades, funeral escorts and other special details.

At the Palm Coast Precinct, they do fingerprinting, pass out information and gun licensing permits, fill requests for vacation house watches and perform other services, according to the news release.

All new C.O.P. volunteers go through 40 hours of training.

Since 2005, they have worked about 260,000 hours and saved the county about $4,806,000.00, according to the release.

For more information about the C.O.P program or to donate a boat, contact Sr. Cmdr. Mark Carman at 386-586-2627 or [email protected].
