A local businessman — Thomas Allen, of Champion Racing Heads — headed over to John’s Junk Yard June 12 to scrap some metal and saw some that was familiar: three metal work benches that had disappeared from his business two weeks before, according to Sheriff’s Office reports.

He’d intended to scrap them, but someone had beat him to it.

He called the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, and a deputy spoke with a manager who said a man named brought all three of the benches in at about 11 a.m. June 3, and received $163 for the metal, according to a Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The manager gave deputies the man’s name and a receipt from the transaction.

The deputy went out to the man’s home, but there was no answer.

They are not yet sure if he was the one who took the benches from Champion Racing Heads.
