Flagler Beach residents who would like to remove invasive Brazilian pepper plants from the properties can bring the plants to a drop-off location on South Flagler Avenue between the police station and the water tank from July to September.

The city is offering the drop-off location for Brazilian pepper plants only, and only to Flagler Beach residents, according to a city of Flagler Beach news release.

The Brazilian pepper is an invasive species that harms native Florida plants and wildlife. It grows and reproduces quickly, replacing native habitat.

But before removing a plant, check to make sure there aren’t any active bird nests within it. Nests are protected under state and federal law.

For more information on the Brazilian pepper and how to get rid of it, visit the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences’ guide to the plant, at edis.ifas.ufl.edu/aa219.
