Thieves smashed out car windows and stole valuables like purses, cash and driver's licenses at Jungle Hut Park, James Holland Park and Varn Park in a string of incidents over the weekend of June 28-29, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office news release.

“As the Florida weather heats up, there is increased activity at the beaches and parks,” Sheriff James L. Manfre said in the news release. “Citizens are encouraged to leave valuables at home or lock important items inside the trunk."

Similar crimes are occurring in neighborhoods and parking lots, according to the release. Thieves often enter cars through unlocked doors, then steal anything within reach. Laptop computers, GPS devices and CDs are items often stolen, according to the news release.
