PALM COAST — After two delays, redevelopment of one of the city’s oldest and most well-known shopping plazas will finally move forward.
The Palm Coast City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the rezoning of about 28 acres for the Island Walk project. The plaza was previously known as the Palm Harbor Shopping Center. It was city’s first shopping center.
Michael Chiumento, the attorney representing the applicant, said that the work on the project began about a year ago. He expects the closing on the property to come within “a couple weeks.”
“We’re ready to go,” Chiumento said Tuesday night. “Within 60 days, we’ll be able to start to turn some dirt out there.”
