A traffic accident officials believed occurred early Thursday morning on U.S 1 ended with the death of one motorcyclist.

After notifiying next of kin, the Florida Highway Patrol released Friday the name of the driver: Peter Lonchar, 66, of Weirton, W.Va.

Lonchar's motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. 1 when it failed to negotiate a curve, just north of Seminole Woods Boulevard.

The bike, a 1995 Harley Davidson, crashed on the right shoulder, after striking a concrete culvert. Lonchar came to final rest in a ditch behind a roadside barrier, obscured from passing traffic. The driver and the motorcycle were discovered by a passing pedestrian around 12:45 p.m. and reported to authorities.

Lonchar was wearing a helmet. The bike is estimated to have $2,000 in damage.
