PALM COAST — Careless driving led to a crash on the morning of Saturday, March 15, on State Road A1A just north of Jungle Hut Road, leaving a motorcyclist in serious condition.
The Florida Highway Patrol report states that Thomas Cromwell, 57, of Palm Coast, was traveling northbound at 11:10 a.m. on A1A and Magnolia Road, in a Ford 4D. He had stopped to allow another vehicle turn left in front of him, when Olivia Kitch, 30, of Roseboro, N.C., driving a Dodge Ram, rear-ended him.
The collision knocked Cromwell’s vehicle into the southbound lane, and caused it to strike the left side of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle being driven by Nicky Tyrone Chesser, 63, of Middleburg.
Chesser was flown to Halifax Hospital because of injuries, which were identified as “severe.”
None of the three drivers was under the influence of alcohol. Chesser was not wearing a helmet, according to the FHP report.
The damage done to Chesser’s Harley-Davidson was $15,000. Cromwell’s Ford sustained $5,000 in damage. Kitch’s Ram was damaged in the amount of $100.
Kitch is being charged with careless driving.
