Twenty Palm Coast residents graduated March 4 from the Palm Coast Citizens Academy, a comprehensive program designed to educate interested residents about the operation and workings of their city government.
The graduating class – the 30th in the program’s history – spent five weeks learning about city departments and visiting city Offices, the Palm Coast Community Center, Fire Station 25 and Water Treatment Plant No. 3.
The Citizens Academy meets once a week, on Monday evenings, for five straight weeks. The course is free and registration is limited to approximately 30 Palm Coast citizens per session. The academy is held three times a year – fall, winter and spring.
The next session will be late spring 2014, running from May 5 to June 2, with graduation on Tuesday evening, June 3.

Artists at the Gardens raises $1,500 for the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House
On Feb. 22, Hammock Gardens, 5208 North Oceanshore Blvd., raised more than $1,500 for the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House during the seventh annual Artists at the Gardens event.
The pathways at Hammock Gardens weave through an abundance of flowers, bushes, pottery, yard ornaments and trees, where local artists displayed and sold their artwork, donating 10 percent of the day’s sales to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.
“Florida Hospital HospiceCare does so much for the community and I like to hold events to give back,” said Janine Regina, owner of Hammock Gardens.
Seven years ago, Regina decided to support the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House with this event because of her personnel connections with the Meyer family and the facility. The Hammock Garden nursery maintains a butterfly garden at the hospice house, giving patients and family members a beautiful place to relax and reflect.
