A milk container filled with gasoline was ignited March 23 on the door step at 21 Prince Patric Lane, in an apparent arson attempt. The Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County sheriff’s deputies responded and spoke to a neighbor, Joao Batista, who had already put out the fire with a pail of water.

The door of the home had been burnt but was still intact. A rubber welcome mat at the front door was also burned, but there was no other damage to the home. The case is still under investigation by State Fire Marshall Murray McDonald.

Batista said he was awaken by his daughter when she arrived home and told him of the fire. The girl had already called 9-1-1.

Batista stated that he did not see anyone in the area, but that neighbors a couple houses down had security cameras. The deputies reviewed the tapes and saw a flash of fire which lit up the entire front of the house, according to the case report. Deputies then witnessed an individual move slowly away from the residence and then turn and run through the front lawn of 19 Prince Patric Lane to the street and continue west on Prince Patric Lane.

It appeared that the individual was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. The officer wrote in his report that he was unable to determine the suspect’s race or gender from the video. Deputies along with K-9 checked the surrounding area with negative results.
