Head Coach: Robert Ripley, first season

2013 record: 3-7

Offensive Scheme: Pro-style, "old school" I-Formation

Defensive Scheme: Multiple 50 (five defensive linemen)

Top Returners:

LB Jordin Castanheira, So.
LB Steverson Jean-Louis, Sr.
WR Andre Bodison, Jr.
S/LB Da'Varis Allen, Jr.

Ripley's take:

On the purpose of spring practice:

"The biggest thing is getting assimilated with the kids, getting them to know me and me to know them so we can start to have a little bit of growth, and get some of our main offensive and defensive stuff in... We need to get out on the grass and see what we've got. That's the hardest part about being a new staff."

On building a program at Matanzas:

"One of the things that they don't have here, that they've never had here is just a pure belief. They're kinda the red-headed stepchild, they're not FPC, and they've never been good at football... If we want to be consistently good every year, we need to be good in the classroom... The next step is being good in the weight room. We're going to change that dynamic to where we're back to having 100 kids in the weight room getting stronger... It takes all of those pieces to build a culture. They've never had all of them, and we have to to be good at it."

Notes:

-Two unproven, southpaw quarterbacks will battle it out for the lead spot under center. (Rising) senior Ian Hubbs is a returning all-conference punter who'll shift his focus to taking snaps not designed to give the ball back to the opponent, while sophomore Noah Hoffman is an intriguing prospect.

-Ripley comes to Matanzas after stints as an assistant at FPC, Pedro Menendez, Warner Christian, and St. Augustine.
