The following is an adapted news release from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office:

Flagler County Sheriff James L. Manfre presented certificates of completion to 14 graduates of the Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy on May 8.

Participants met twice weekly for six weeks, listening to presentations by members of Sheriff’s Office units like Investigations, Narcotics, Victim Advocates, K-9, Traffic, Dive and Marine Units as well as the agency’s SWAT Team.

They toured the Communications Center at the County Emergency Operations Center, looked inside the walls of the Detention Facility, and went on a ride-along with a deputy to see what it is like to be on patrol.

“We hope that our Citizen’s Academy gives people a better understanding of what the Sheriff’s Office does and law enforcement’s role in our community,” said Sheriff James L. Manfre.

The program is held twice a year, and Community Outreach Sgt. Mike Lutz, coordinator of the Citizens Academy, is working on plans for a fall academy that will be held during daytime hours.

Enrollment is limited. To apply, visit flaglersheriff.com, call Sgt. Lutz at 586-2632, or email him at [email protected].
