The terms for all Ormond commission seats are up this year.
The mayor of Ormond Beach and two city commissioners have filed papers with the city clerk showing their intention to run for re-election this year. Commissioner Troy Kent filed on May 2, Mayor Ed Kelley filed on May 14 and Commissioner Bill Partington filed on May 16.
Kelley, who retired from Hawaiian Tropic in 2001, was elected mayor in 2010 and re-elected in 2012. He served on the City Commission from 1994 to 1997. He returned to the city commission for Zone 3 in 2005 in a special election. He also served as deputy mayor before running for mayor in 2010.
Troy Kent was elected city commissioner for Zone 2 in 2003. Born and raised in Ormond Beach, Commissioner Kent is a fifth-grade teacher at Pathways Elementary School. He is also a board member of Ormond MainStreet.
Bill Partington was elected to the City Commission for Zone 4 in 2003. He was raised in Ormond Beach and currently serves as an assistant public defender for the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court. Previously, he had a private law practice.
The annual salary is $11,254 for a commissioner and $14,559 for mayor.
