Gun & Archery Club raises $3,150 for American Cancer Society
The Flagler Gun & Archery Club raised $3,150 at its May 4 Cancer in the Crosshairs fundraiser, and will donate the money to the American Cancer Society.
The Holly Hill Police Agency and Flagler County Sheriff's Office competed in shooting matches, and a Flagler County Sheriff’s deputy won the event.
“It takes a lot of work to organize an event like this,” Flagler County Undersheriff Rick Staly said in a Flagler Gun & Archery Club press release, “But these guys are passionate about doing their part to donate to cancer research and we hope to continue to be involved as the event grows.”
Officer Jack Sventko was the winner of the three-gun competition, according to the press release. He was presented with the Charles T. “Chuck” Sease memorial trophy and award named in honor of Flagler County Deputy Deputy Charles Sease, who was struck and killed by a vehicle being pursued by officers on July 5th, 2003.
The Embry Riddle Aeronautical University ROTC also competed, and the gold medal student winner was David Bailey.
The fundraiser was started after club member Ken Smith asked club president Steve Canfield if they could hold a small fundraiser for in honor of his godmother Marlene Germain, who died of pancreatic cancer Dec. 19, according to the release.
Marlene’s children, grandchildren and husband traveled from Massachussetts to attend the event, and the ERAU ROTC held a ceremony and presented her husband with an American flag in her honor.
Flagler Gun & Archery Club is located in western Flagler County at 1290 CR 90 East, in Bunnell.

Haven Hospice, Las Palmas to offer support club for widows and widowers
Haven Hospice is partnering with Las Palmas Retirement Home to offer a widow/widower support club in Palm Coast, starting May 29th, according to a Haven Hospice press release.
Haven Hospice bereavement specialist Vonceil Levine will facilitating the meetings, which will be held at 3 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month at the Las Palmas Retirement Home at 70 Town Court in Palm Coast.
