Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies will hold extra patrols to find and stop impaired drivers over the three-day Memorial Day weekend.
“This weekend is a time to remember the men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces,” Sheriff James L. Manfre said in a news release. “This weekend is also a time to participate in recreational activities, and we want everyone to have a safe holiday.”
Extra patrols will be held on local waterways as well as on land.
The city of Palm Coast will also set up roadside message boards announcing the additional enforcement and warning that impaired drivers will be arrested, according to the news release.
More than 10,000 people die nationwide each year because of drunk driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
