At 90 years old, Frank Hedrick is one of the oldest veterans in Palm Coast, and he was honored on Memorial Day to present a wreath at the city’s ceremony at Heroes Park.

“It means everything,” Hedrick said afterward.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was on two ships that were sunk by German submarines, he said. He has lived in Palm Coast for 21 years with his wife, Margaret. “I won’t tell you how old she is,” he said. “I’ll get in trouble.”

Margaret Hedrick’s grandfather served in World War I and was buried in Flanders Field.

Other organizations that presented wreaths were Palm Coast Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696, American Legion Post 115, Marine Corps League Detachment 867, Amvets Post 113, Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 808, Jewish War Veterans Post 300, Italian American War Veterans Post 7 and the Military Officer Association of America.

After an invocation by Lt. Col. Harry Gilman, Mayor Jon Netts, Col. Gary E. DeKay, Commandant Jack Marshall and Cmdr. Ronald Stark addressed the crowd. A three-volley salute was presented by the Marine Corp League Detachment 867, followed by taps by the VFW and a musical tribute by the Community Chorus of Palm Coast.
