For the eighth year in a row, the Flagler/Palm Coast Kiwanis Club gathered May 29, to honor Law Enforcement Officers of the Year from all three Flagler County agencies.

From the Bunnell Police Department, Detective Sgt. Harry Kuleski Jr. was honored. Kuleski joined the Bunnell Police Department in 2012 after being retired for a couple years. Chief Tom Forester said Kuleski acts as a mentor for everyone in the department.

Officer Austin Yelvington received the honors for the Flagler Beach Police. He has only been on patrol for one year, but Sgt. Bill Shamp said that he understands that even the most novice officer should set an example. On April 9, the department received a letter from a victim praising Yelvington and how he handled a situation. The letter talked about his kindness, professionalism and insight when dealing with her case and pointing her in the direction of victim advocates.

From the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Franklin Gamarra received the honor. Gamarra has been with the Sheriff’s Office for two years, but before that was with the Bunnell Police Department for two years and the New York Police Department for two years. Prior to a career in law enforcement, Gamarra was in the United States Marines for six years.

In 2013 Gamarra responded to 3,000 calls and made 118 arrests. He hope to one day work narcotics and special investigations.
