Flagler Falcons cheerleaders win grand championship

The Jr. Pee Wee Flagler PAL Cheerleaders won took the grand championship of all the JPW squads on Oct. 26, at the 2014East Coast Conference Cheerleading Competition at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.

“Our famous ‘We are Flagler’ chant really helped the girls get pumped up,” said Wensly Duran, the team mom. “This was the very first time the girls won grand championship, so we were all extremely proud of them.”

The girls will be participating in their regional tournament Friday, Nov. 28, at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.

FPC football gets All-district team selections

The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs received numerous selections for the 8A FACA District 6 All-district team selections. Those who were chosen were: Jimmie Robinson, Marcel Williams, Ry’kel Alexandar and Jake Dempsey.
Those who received Honorable Mention were: Charlie Picano, Dalton Thomas, Josh Belle, Jon Muniz and Que’Shaun Byrd.

Robinson was also nominated for the 8A FACA District 6 Florida Player of the Year, and coach Caesar Campana was nominated for Coach of the Year.

FPC cross country wins districts

FPC Cross Country teams competed in the district meet Friday, Oct. 31, at Alligator Lake in Lake City.

The boys’ team won the district title over Buchholz and Mandarin. Markell Peck, Justin Pacifico, and Ashton Garrett led the boys with Top 5th, 6th and 9th finishes respectively. It was the Bulldogs’ first title since 2004. FPC will host the region meet on next week to qualify for the state tournament.

The girls placed third, which earned them a spot in the regional meet. They were led by Sophia Clark and Sa'Da Rowley, who both set personal records, finishing 7th and 10th.

Matanzas cross country qualifies for regionals

The Matanzas boys’ and girls’ cross country teams finished in the Top 5 at their District 5-3A cross country meet Saturday, Nov. 1, at New Smyrna Beach High School.

Kristie Albano, Payton Tucker, Brianna Evans and Isabella Rodriguez finished consecutively from 13th-16 place for the Lady Pirates.

Liam Conville and Angel Perez led the boys with Top 4 and 8 finishes.

Their regional tournaments will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, in Alachua.
