The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs (1-0) defeated the New Smyrna Barracudas 77-33 in the first game of the season Tuesday, Nov. 18, at FPC High School.

The Barracudas didn’t have an answer for the Bulldogs’ pressure, as they were able to force 17 steals while only turning the ball over five times once in the second half.

FPC outscored New Smyrna 42-12 in the second half, and every Bulldog on the roster scored at least one basket. Seven players for FPC recorded at least two assists, which led to FPC’s 72% second-half shooting on two-point field goals.

Nysean Giddens led FPC with 17 points and four rebounds. D’John James had 13 points on a perfect shooting night. Gaiquawn Rogers was also shot perfect from the floor, scoring 12 points and led the team with seven rebounds.

“It was the start I wanted,” coach Gary McDaniel said. “Though the score was a bit lopsided, we played up and down at times. Overall, I am extremely happy with the effort, but I know we can play better and smarter.”

The Bulldogs will look to build on their momentum when they play Spruce Creek tonight, Nov. 20, at FPC.
