Two killed, two injured in S.R. 100 crash

Two people were killed and two were injured Monday evening, Oct. 21 in a car crash at the intersection of State Road 100 and County Road 305.

Elizabeth Jean Alley, 45, and Vada Stafford Delk, 72 — both of Port St. Lucie — died in the crash. Port St. Lucie resident Carl Eugene Alley Jr., 50, was in serious condition, and Palm Coast resident Eileen Wojczyszyn, 54, was in critical condition.

Wojczyszyn had been driving west on S.R. 100 at about 6:20 p.m. in her Hyundai Sonata and stopped in traffic at the C.R. 305 turnoff.

Behind her, 26-year-old Jody Alan Hyde, driving a Ford F-150, “failed to react in time to the stopped traffic,” according to a Florida Highway Patrol report, and crashed into Wojczyszyn’s car, sending it spinning into the eastbound lane and into the path of an eastbound Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Carl Alley.

Delk and Elizabeth Jean Alley, both passengers in Alley’s car, died in the crash.

Wojczyszyn and Carl Alley were both taken to Halifax hospital.

Hyde, the drier of the pickup truck, was not injured.

Palm Coast woman dies in crash outside Target

On Oct. 18, 58-year-old Palm Coast resident Diane Upton was heading south out of the Target shopping center on Landing Boulevard on a green light when 26-year-old Palm Coast resident Rebecca Lawless, heading west on State Road 100, blew through a red light at the intersection and crashed into Upton’s car, according to an FHP report.

Diane Upton died at the scene of the crash.

Her two passengers, Kalyn Upton, 24 and Vivian Upton, 5, were taken to Halifax Hospital in critical condition. 

Lawless was not injured.

Michigan man killed in U.S.1 motorcycle wreck

Three days earlier, on Oct. 15, 65-year-old Michigan resident Olvis Harville was in a motorcycle crash on U.S.1. He later died from his injuries.

Harville was riding his Harley Davidson south in the outside lane when the motorcyclist in front of him, 70-year-old Jack Miller, also a Michigran resident and riding a Harley, slowed down for a right turn.

Olville “did not initially observe (Miller) had decelerated,” and struck Mlller’s motorcycle from behind, according to an FHP report.

Both motorcycles overturned, and Harville was thrown off his bike and onto the grass shoulder.

Rescuers took him to Halifax Hospital, where he died Oct. 17.Miller had minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
