The Seabreeze Sandcrabs outplayed the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas to win their first game of the season 17-7 Friday Sept. 19, at NSB High School. The Sandcrabs hurt themselves in all of their losses with turnovers, but they were able to force turnovers against the Barracudas, which led to their much needed victory.
“When we got on the field, we started clicking as a team,” Raushod Floyd said, who criticized his team for playing selfishly against Flagler Palm Coast earlier this season. Floyd took a screen pass from Justin Muller 48 yards for a first half touchdown to go up 10-7, after a Sam Hayworth field goal.
As the Sandcrabs offense continued to struggle, apart from Floyd, they leaned on their special teams to get the job done. Punt returner Scott Summers found a hole in the Barracuda’s defense and sprinted down the sideline for a 75-yard punt return to put the Crabs up by 10.
Just when NSB began to move the ball in the fourth quarter, the Sandcrabs forced a fumble, which was recovered by Bubba Ballish, to ice the game.
Seabreeze will look to continue its winning momentum as they host Bartram Trail Thursday Sept. 25, at Municipal Stadium.
