Heavy rain was falling when the incident occurred.

A pedestrian was killed at 8:19 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the intersection of North Nova Road and North Old Kings Road, according to spokesman for the Ormond Beach Police Department.

Vassilis Vouzoukas, 77, of Ormond Beach, died at the scene.

The driver of the car that struck Vouzoukas said it was raining heavily and he could not see well when he suddenly hit something. He stopped his car and then saw the victim. He checked for signs of life and a witness performed CPR.

Police determined that the victim did not yield the right of way to traffic and was crossing in an area where no crosswalk or traffic control devise was present. The driver was not cited.
