Captain Corn offers fishing and customized tours.
“Sometimes it only takes some time on the water to make a week the best week you ever had,” Scott Cornelius said recently.
He and his wife, Ashley, have just started a business to help people enjoy the local waters. :
The Good Life Charters has been operating at Tomoka State Park for a couple of months, but recently had its official grand opening and Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting.
They have a small boat for “tournament-style” fishing and a larger pontoon boat for customized tours.
Cornelius said he has fished the local waters all his life and always dreamed of being a captain. He operated a lawn service for ten years, and recently decided to take the plunge and start his own charter business.
“If not now, when?” he said.
Scott Cornelius is now “Captain Corn.”
“The name makes people laugh,” he said. “That’s the idea, to have a good time.”
For fishing, Captain Corn offers his lifetime of experience on the water.
“If you want to go out and find fish, there’s always something special that’s biting. I can find them,” he said.
Cornelius customized the pontoon boat along with his wife, Ashley, co-owner and first mate, and it’s available for a variety of tours. He suggests two, four or six hour tours and will customize them to fit the wishes of the customers.
He can lead a guided tour, or just be quiet and let people enjoy the scenery. Or, he can park on an island in the river and build a fire to cook some food. He said a boat tour on the river would be a good way to entertain guests from out of town.
“We just want to help people get out on the water,” Ashley Cornelius said.
Captain Corn said before he takes people out, he always talks with them to find out what they want to do so he can plan the tour.
