Wally the cat was hired as a dishwasher at an Ormond Beach diner, but he had to be let go because the plates still had residue.
It seemed like a good idea, at first. Janice Purdy, owner of Purdy Good Diner, needed a dishwasher, and her pet cat, Wally, needed a job.
“At home, Wally always licks his milk bowl clean —I mean, clean,” Purdy said. “So, I figured this could work. It was a symbiotic relationship.”
Wally wore an apron and licked away for the first week or two, not breaking any important dishes in the kitchen. But then the customers started to complain.
“I had a fur ball in my salad,” said one whining customer, whose name is withheld because he wasn’t authorized to speak on the subject. “It tasted like my wife’s hair brush, only more gamey.”
Purdy reprimanded the cat, and then he started showing up late for work.
And if you believe that, we got you good. April Fool’s!
