FPC’s Nick Zipf shines in baseball win
In Flagler Palm Coast’s 11-1 win in five innings over University Tuesday, March 31, Nick Zipf did everything except call the game. He pitched a complete game one-hitter, nailed an out-of-the-park homerun, racked up five RBIs.
“I'm just excited for the last half of the season, and after a big game by the team today, this is what we needed heading into the final stretch of the season,” he said. When asked if this was the best game he ever played, Zipf replied, “Yep, it’s up there.”
FPC will next be in action against First Coast for Military Appreciation Night Friday, April 3, at FPC. They will be working with the National Guard Unit here in Palm Coast and donating the proceeds of ticket sales to the Wounded Warrior Project.
FPC’s goal is to reach $500, which is more than what most varsity games bring, so they are hoping to boost attendance in order to make a hefty donation.
Flagler Knights’ defense gets victory
The Flagler Knights held off the Brevard Hurricanes to win their second game of the season 13-7 Saturday, March 28, in Merritt Island.
The Knights were led by a stingy defense that forced four interceptions and four sacks. The player of the game, Cornelius Flynt, snatched three of those interceptions, broke up four passes, returned a punt for a 60-yard score and caught four passes for 20 yards.
Fred Walker added to his Florida Football Alliance league-leading sack total with two that made 11 on the season, also at the top of the league with 13 tackles for loss. Charlie Washington finished with eight tackles and a sack, and Onnie Riddick scored the other touchdown on a 30-yard interception return.
The Knights will welcome the top-ranked Orlando Rage to Flagler Saturday, April 4, at the Edward Johnson City Park in Bunnell.
Bridge Building Program seeks to help more kids
Flagler Palm Coast girls’ basketball just finished the most successful season in its history, reaching the Class 8A Final Four. Head coach Javier Bevacqua, who was awarded Coach of the Year throughout the entire state of Florida for Class 8A, praised trainer Michael Steward, saying, “Steward was instrumental in our success this season, providing strength and conditioning to our program. He made our team stronger, and as a result, kept us healthier for our deep run in the playoffs.”
Steward is the founder of the Bridge Building Program, a free basketball skills and development camp for kids 6-18 years old that mentors students and provides them with leadership and characteristic skills of becoming outstanding and productive citizens within the community.
“Our goal is to expose students to a multicultural program designed to awaken the artistic side of students who may have otherwise limited access,” Steward said. “Tutoring will be provided for those who need the extra help academically; we not only want our athletes to be physically fit, but educationally challenged as well. Emphasis will be placed on academics.”
The program is FREE and will be held on Saturdays at Flagler Palm Coast High School at 5500 E Highway 100.
Dates for the event are as follows:
April 4, 11, 18, 25, 2015

May 2, 9, 2015
