Palm Coast resident Pam Bolter has been directing the Florida U.S. Pageant for the past 14 years; and this year, for the first time, it will be held at the Flagler Auditorium 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26.
Bolter has been involved in the Miss America pageants for 30 years as a contestant, judge and director, and took over directing the Florida pageant after being crowned Mrs. Florida in 2001.
“I didn’t plan at that time for it to be 14 years,” she said. “But I’m very committed to all of the girls making a difference in their community.”
Bolter said that the crown becomes a megaphone for a cause, and she really aims to empower women and encourages participants to use their title to give back to their communities.
“The crown is more than just a pretty thing sitting on your head,” she said.
In addition to the new location, this year, the Georgia ladies will join the Florida contestants for a duel state pageant.
In moving the pageant to Flagler and adding the Georgia women, Bolter wanted to bring more awareness to Flagler County and bring business dollars to the area.
She hopes that the community will support the pageant’s new home in Flagler, as she would like to keep it here as long as she is directing it.
