The following is an adapted news release from the Flagler County communications office:

Flagler County’s airport has a new name to go with its new image: Flagler Executive Airport.

“It’s more inviting to visitors and it’s more inviting to corporate businesses,” Airport Director Roy Sieger said.
The airport had its alpha identifier changed in November 2014 from XFL to FIN. The “X” in the former designation signifies a rural designation.

“Of the 511 airports with towers, there were two that had an X designation,” Sieger said. “Now there’s only one, and it isn’t Flagler County.”

The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously its regular meeting April 20 to both change the airport’s name and to proclaim April General Aviation Month.

More than $22 million in projects and improvements have been completed at the airport in the six years Sieger has been director, and another $15 to $20 million are in the works.

The Jacksonville Business Journal in March ranked the airport No. 20 in the state based on the total passengers enplaned in 2013.
