In celebration of its 70th anniversary in 2016, the Ormond Memorial Art Museum plans to publish a history of the museum and gardens, including the volunteers who have donated their time. It will be written by local historical authors Alice and Ron Howell.

They are seeking any old photographs, memories or stories from the public. Those with material are asked to attend a Meet the Authors event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the museum, 78 E. Granada Blvd.

Those unable to attend can call Museum Director Susan Richmond at 676-3347.

Shoemaker cleared in driving incident

The state attorney’s office has ruled there is insufficient evidence to prosecute Dr. James Shoemaker, of Ormond Beach, who was suspected by Ormond Beach police as being the driver of a car that ran over a workman’s foot at the intersection of Ormond Lakes Boulevard and Indianhead Drive on June 17.

The driver of a white Mercedes-Benz car allegedly ignored a workman’s instructions and continued past a detour sign. Shoemaker was suspected because he owns a white Mercedes Benz and lives nearby. A worker near the scene picked out Shoemaker from a photo lineup, but the injured worker did not pick him out, according to the police incident report.

The injured worker was identified in the report as Frank Jones of Daytona Beach. At the scene, he said he was in pain but declined treatment.
