Non-profit looks out for law enforcement dogs

K9, Jackie will be safe on duty

The Bunnell Police Department's K9 Jackie, has been awarded a ballistic vest, donated by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and Tom Berry of the Blue Alert Foundation, who donated $950 through an online t-shirt fundraiser. The fundraiser paid tribute to the 20 law enforcement dogs that lost their lives in the line of duty in 2014. The vest will be embroidered with, “This vest is donated by the Blue Alert Foundation.”

Vested Interest in K9s, is a 501c(3) in East Taunton, MA. Their mission is to provide these bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs throughout the United States.

“A the chief in a small municipality police department, where budgets are extremely tight, I am extremely grateful for the donation and want to thank the dedicated individuals in the non-profit organization that support our law enforcement professional,” said Bunnell Police Chief Tom Foster.

 Senior Citizen Day celebration and nominations

Flagler County is the home of many outstanding elders who have served and inspired others in this community: teachers, nurses, writers, merchants, builders, physicians, historians, environmentalists, healers, journalists, musicians, volunteers, and so many others. They serve as role models and mentors with their examples of hard work, good deeds, and wisdom.
Nominations, of exceptional, Flagler/Palm Coast men and women, who are 70-years or older, are being accepted through Monday, Aug. 10.
Provide the name and age, and why your nominee merits the award, including personal stories, and how this individual effected your life. Three nominees will be selected from the submissions, for the ceremony, and will be notified.
The public ceremony will be on Senior Citizen's Day, from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Florida Hospital Flagler, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, education room D.

NAACP offers school resources

To maximize parental involvement, the Flagler County NAACP invites parents to join them at the Annual Back2School Jam from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

Parents can purchase backpacks and uniform shirts for $5 each. There will be valuable school information about community programs and resources, and after-school programs. Local realtor featured on popular TV show

Patricia “P.J.” Blackmon, a Flagler County real estate agent, will be featured on the HGTV show, Beachfront Bargain Hunt, on Sunday, Aug. 9. The episode was filmed during a four-day period in Flagler County and feature locations, including the Funky Pelican and Marineland, as well as some of the parks and beaches.

 Food give away
