“It is nice to bring a bunch of guys together for a good time and a great cause.”
Softball player Sean Yost
On Tuesday, May 19, an electrical fire swept through the Casey-Dixon home's garage; the heat and smoke damaged every possession in the residence. Thankfully, all family members safely avoided the fire. Only daughter Sofia Casey and father Roy Casey were at home at the time of the incident. Almost three months later, the eight-person family is raising money to help rebuild their lives.
With six kids to take care ofm mother Kindra Dixon said she is “extremely thankful for all the support received within the community.”
On Aug. 15-16, the family hosted a men’s and a coed softball tournament, with proceeds benefiting the family for repairs. Help has come from all directions. Clothes have been donated from community members on Swip-Swap, as well as Smoothie King who gave away free smoothies for every three articles of clothing donated. Numerous local restaurants have also donated gift cards to help raise money in a raffle. For the softball event, ACME donated trophies for the winning team, while Flagler Fast helped obtain the fields on which to hold the tournament, at Flagler County Recreation Area and Fairgrounds, Bunnell.
