The following is a news release from Flagler County Schools
Construction crews have been busy around Matanzas High School all summer long preparing several road projects, including a new interchange with Interstate 95.
While detours and road closures are not anticipated once school is back in session on, Monday, Aug. 24, drivers in the area around the school campus should be aware that work is ongoing.
There will be no lane closures between 7 and 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., when school is in session. When Matanzas High School hosts a football game, there will be no lane closures in the three hours before kickoff and for an hour after the game ends.
Crews are working on the sidewalks along Matanzas Woods Parkway, with the goal of having them open by Monday, Aug. 24. Weather has been a major factor though in getting this section completed on time. There are a handful of families on the west side of I-95 this could impact. They have been made aware of the situation and the school’s Transportation Department has a plan set to go if busing needs to be provided.
The school district receives constant updates from the construction team and as any changes happen, they will pass them onto the families.
This nearly, $9 million project is slated to be finished in May 2016 and lane closures will be necessary, but school schedules are taken into account when planning those closures.
