Like many children in Flagler County, Sage Sackett's summer vacation ended on Monday, Aug. 24. The fifth grade student at Belle Terre Elementary attended the back to school open house on Friday, Aug. 21, just like the other students.
Unlike the others, Sage plans to combine schoolwork with working on her second meditation book for kids.
Sage is the author of “Uncle Namaste and the Meditating Monkeys,” a book that came to her during her own meditation. She writes under the pen name, Sage Kimberly James.
“I like to meditate in parks,” Sage said. “I was meditating and thought of monkeys and wrote a book about monkeys that meditate.”
Sage's mother, Erin Sackett, wasn't surprised when her daughter took pen to paper.
“She has been writing since, well as soon as she could,” Sackett said.
Sage said that the book, which she also illustrated, only took her three days to complete.
Sage said she often meditates with her brother and sister and a couple of close friends. She is hoping that she can introduce more friends and classmates to meditation.
The book can be downloaded from www. youtube.com.
